ARIK AIR RELAUNCHES FLIGHTS TO MONROVIA

Arik Air has resumed flight services to Monrovia, Liberia.
Flights to Monrovia were suspended in July 2014 in the wake of the outbreak of Ebola virus
disease in some West African countries.
Arik Air will be operating three weekly flights from Lagos to Monrovia via Accra, Ghana on
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

MOVENPICK HOTELS TO OPEN IN NIGERIA.
Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has revealed plans to open its first property in Nigeria, the largest economy in Africa.
The company has signed a landmark deal with Queen Amina Garden Ventures, a wholly owned subsidiary of Urban Shelter, a prominent Nigerian property development company, to manage the 250-key Mövenpick Hotel and Conference Centre Abuja, marking another milestone in its ambitious African expansion strategy.

GUINEAN CAPITAL, CONAKRY, NAMED WORLD BOOK CAPITAL 2017
Conakry, the capital of the Republic of Guinea, has been named World Book Capital for 2017.The decision was made by an international committee of experts on 30 June during a meeting at UNESCO’s Headquarters in Paris.
The selection committee singled out Conakry “on account of the quality and diversity of its
programme, in particular its focus on community involvement” as well as “for its well structured budget and clear development goals with a strong emphasis on youth and literacy”.

ABTA,THE FCO and GET SAFE ONLINE ISSUE WARNING OVER FAKE TURKISH E-VISAS.
ABTA (The Association of British Travel Agents), the Foreign and
Commonwealth Office (FCO) and Get Safe Online are warning travelers to Turkey to
only obtain e-visas from the official Republic of Turkey website. The warning
is being issued after up to a hundred UK holidaymakers purchased fake e-visas
which were only discovered on arrival in Turkey at which point authentic visas
had to be repurchased at the airport.

JORDAN BOOST TOURISM WITH VISA WAIVER

The Jordanian government has
approved several measures to uplift the tourism sector, designed to make
travelling to Jordan more convenient for people of all nationalities.
Most significantly visa fees are
to be waived for tourists of all nationalities with immediate effect.
The move applies to visitors
coming through Jordanian tour operators, whether travelling individually or in
groups.

SEPP BLATTER RE-ELECTED!
Sepp Blatter has been re-elected as president of FIFA for another four years after winning the vote against challenger Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan.
Blatter (79) had missed out on the required two-thirds majority in the first ballot - receiving 133 votes to his rival's 73 - but prince Ali took to the stage to withdraw before a second round could begin.
Delegates at the 65th FIFA congress in Zurich opted for Blatter despite widespread controversy that engulfed the event this week.

ETIHAD LAUNCHES SERVICES TO ENTEBBE, UGANDA
Etihad Airways has strengthened its presence in east Africa with the launch of new services between Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates and Entebbe, in central Uganda.
The new service is operated by a two-class Airbus A320 aircraft with 16 Business Class and 120 Economy Class seats, designed to provide business and leisure travellers with a direct four-times-per-week service between Entebbe and Abu Dhabi.
With a population of about 40 million, Uganda is the world’s second most populous landlocked country after Ethiopia.
Speaking on the launch, James Hogan, president, Etihad Airways, said:
“Uganda is one of the continent’s fastest-growing business and tourism destinations, and the launch of services to Uganda is consistent with our strategy of targeting areas of strong growth in emerging markets.”

Etihad Airways currently operates scheduled services to eight other destinations in Africa and the Indian Ocean, including: Cairo, Casablanca, Dar es Salaam (Dec 2015), Johannesburg, Khartoum, Lagos, Nairobi, and Mahé in the Seychelles.

..A DAY OUT IN THE ARABIAN DESERT
Last Friday was my day-off and I decided to try out the Arabian desert - Yes safari. Quite interesting to say the least..
There was so much to see....and do.
The Arabian sand is a spectacle in itself.
And the drivers of the SUVs performed daring stunts.
...and the Falcon.....More after this time out.
