Today 6th March 2016, marks the 59th independence anniversary of the Republic of Ghana, one of the prominent nations in West Africa.

Ghana attained independence from its colonial master – Britain - on March 6, 1957; the first British colony in Africa to do so.
The late Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was its first prime Minister.
On the 1st of July 1960, Ghana became a republic with Dr. kwame Nkrumah as its president.

The current president is John Dramani Mahama.

Côte d’Ivoire to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, Togo to the east, and the
Gulf of Guinea to the south.
